The Unifor National Telecommunications Industry Council was created in 2014, the year after the formation of Unifor in 2013 through the merger of the former CAW and CEP unions. The Telecommunications sector locals came for the most part from the former CEP and represent the vast majority of Telecommunications workers in the country.
The Telecommunications Council within Unifor serves as a crucial bridge between local unions and the national union, ensuring that the unique challenges and opportunities in the telecom sector are addressed in collaboration with the national union. It plays a key role in advocating for industry-specific concerns, fostering solidarity among locals, and advancing the collective interests of telecommunications workers across Canada.
