In light of the recent and concerning shooting at Terminal 1 in Toronto, we want to take a moment to focus on something that matters above all else—your safety.
As we prepare for our upcoming Unifor Local 531 Workplace Representative Elections, we want to ensure all members feel informed, empowered, and engaged in the process.
On Thursday, April 3, 2025, an important email was sent from @email to all above the wing members in YVR, YYC and YYZ about the nomination and election period for Workplace Representatives at our three bases
Unifor Local 531 is proud to welcome our newest workplace representatives in both YYZ and YYC, serving our Ramp Service members below the wing! These dedicated members have stepped up to support their colleagues, ensuring that workplace concerns are addressed and that our Collective Bargaining Agreement is upheld.
Changes to the Canadian federal and British Columbia provincial minimum wages will impact some of our newly hired members. These increases will bring adjustments to Step 1 wages but will not affect other pay steps within our wage scale.
Unifor Local 531 is excited to host semi-monthly virtual coffee chats—an informal and casual way for members to connect with the Executive Board. Unlike formal General Membership meetings, these sessions provide a relaxed space to ask questions, share workplace experiences, and offer suggestions. To accommodate members across three time zones, chats are scheduled at varying times of the day, twice a month. Whether you have concerns, ideas, or just want to stay informed, this is your opportunity to engage with us in an open and friendly setting. Grab a coffee and join the conversation!
The rollout of iPads in YYZ is complete with YYC and YVR coming on board in April and May, providing a powerful tool to improve your daily tasks and enhance the guest experience. The team in YYZ has been successfully using iPads since July of last year, and their feedback has been positive.
Nominations for the YYZ Ramp Service Agents Workplace Representatives have officially closed, and we now move forward to the next important step—the election.
YYZ Ramp Service union members will have the opportunity to vote for their Workplace Representatives next week. Voting will be conducted online through Simply Voting, ensuring a secure and transparent election process.
On Saturday, March 8 at 1130, the Unifor British Columbia Regional Council Women's Committee is hosting an International Women's Day Lunch and Learn at the Unifor Union Hall in New Westminster.
Lunch will be provided and we will have guest speaker from the YWCA Metro Vancouver, a 50/50 draw, door prizes. The WOmen's Committee is seeking donations of baby formula, baby food and diapers for the local food bank.
Union recognition and the protection of bargaining unit work are cornerstones of what makes a union strong and effective. These principles ensure that the work performed by unionized employees is respected, valued, and protected from being undermined. But what does this mean in practice, and why should it matter to you as a member?
